Game Summary
Saturday 26 March 2022 (0-2)Colonial Titans vs (2-0) Va Crusaders
The upstart Colonial Titans were game from the start. They came in hyped and ready to put in work. They stopped the Crusaders on their first drive inside their own 5-yard line and appeared to be charged up as they boasted of their accomplishment that they had the #1 defense in the league and would not be scored on. The Crusader’s offensive line took that challenge personal according to the elder statesman of the Crusaders O line #79 Steve Coleman, who then requested that they be allowed to run the ball the rest of the way. Coach Larry Stith obliged and the Cru went on to rush for a league-high 360 yards in route to a 66-00 blowout win.
Those 300 plus yards were shared between Charles Thigpen, Roc Artis, Brady Barefoot, Andre Jackson, Jeff Carter, and Quarterback Phonta’ “Old Man” Williams. The Crusaders refused to look past the young first-year team for their upcoming grudge match with the Va Beach Rhinos but instead left no doubt as to them being ready. The offensive explosion was equally matched by the lights-out defense played by the Crusader’s defense, who did not allow a positive rushing play.
The defense added a beautifully executed break on the ball by Ronnie Person who returned it for a pick-six. With interceptions by Shad Harris and a plethora of big hits by Brady Barefoot, Jordan Brown, and Corey Cuffee. The Cru defense also featured some surprisingly stellar play from their rookie defensive tackle Daniel “Rookie” Burs who hopes to continue to impress on the field and hold off the competition for his reps. The third phase of the ball also delivered a blocked punt by Brady Barefoot.
Overall the Crusaders were hitting on all cylinders Saturday night, but they understand that their record is 0-0 each week and they will have to prepare for a formidable opponent when they take on the 4-0 Rhinos.
